Uva

As a wine glass suitable for daily use, Uva is designed to be relatively short for ease of handling. Although its wide-bottomed bowl may appear somewhat casual at first glance, the slightly outward-curving lip adds an air of elegance.

To produce the Uva glass we adopted the drawn stem technique, which forms the bowl and stem together. After the bottom of the mold-blown bowl is placed over the fire again to soften the glass, the bottom is drawn with a tweezer-like tool known as a jack to form the stem. This glassblowing technique creates a beautifully flowing line. The bowl rim is made thinner to enhance the touch on the lips, and the stem, too, is thinned down as much as possible. These elements combine to imbue the glass with a delicate tension.
