This generously sized flat plate measures approximately 28 cm in diameter. Ideal for serving a main dish, it is also versatile enough for single-plate meals or as a centerpiece on the table.
The present-day Iga Basin was once the floor of ancient Lake Biwa, yielding high-quality clay rich in organic matter. Artisans in Iga craft each piece using this local clay, prepare glazes blending ash and feldspar from the area, and fire every plate individually with care. Available in five glaze variations—lime, Shino, black amber, Oribe, and Kiseto—the collection highlights the coarse texture of Iga clay, natural scorch marks, and expressive glaze effects.
When fired, Iga clay becomes porous, providing excellent heat retention. Over time, color gradually seeps into the fine crazing, and the surface acquires a gentle luster—a gradual transformation described as “nurturing the vessel.”
