Yamabuki

These plates are created at a Hasami-ware pottery in Nagasaki. They are characterized by an organic, gradual curve that rises from the broad, flat surface and ends in a slender rim. The strong, simple presence of white porcelain; the clear green of celadon; the deep aquamarine of cobalt; the soft luminescence of silvered porcelain—all of these variations are in porcelain. Those with patterned surfaces feature the inban printing technique, in which the pattern is applied to each individual plate by hand. With gaps, blurring, and broken lines, every pattern is unique; indeed, it is the uneven, handmade texture that makes inban printing so fascinating. The Yamabuki line includes round, oval, square, and rectangular plates in varying sizes. They can be combined and stacked in countless ways.
