Aye, Yae, Ray, Bit, Kou, Fru, Bel

by Osamu Saruyama

This series of glasses is inspired by a range of beverages—wine, beer, champagne, calvados, whisky, and gin. Yet they are not bound to these associations; each piece is designed for versatility of use.

At the heart of the collection is Aye, defined as a wine glass. Its name, however, comes from the archaic English word for “yes”—a quiet affirmation that red or white wine, water or juice, even beer, are all equally welcome. The short stem imbues the glass with elegance as well as ease of handling, making it well suited to everyday use.

Yae, designed to be stackable, takes its name from a Japanese word meaning “layered” or “overlapping,” often used to describe the many petals of a flower. Inspired by the pint glasses of British pubs, it is slightly reduced in size for the home, with a capacity tailored to a standard 350 ml can of beer.
