Les glaçons

Les glaçons vases are crafted by grinding hand-blown glass to create a distinctive impression utterly unlike ordinary clear glass. The artisan creates varied textures by engraving vertical lines one by one, forming thin horizontal facets, and coarsely grinding the entire surface. Shifting in stages from a coarse to a fine grinder, the artisan takes time to carefully shape each vase. Glass created in the intense heat of the glassblowing studio, where room temperature can rise above 50 degrees Celsius in midsummer, is ground to give it the cool, austere presence of a shard of ice. Every vase is a veritable sculpture, with strong yet delicate features, shaped to elegantly hold a single small wildflower.
