These flat Western-style rimmed plates are available in three sizes, and in three kinds of glaze: a yellow-brown glaze called ame-yu, a transparent glaze called namijiro-yu, and a milky white glaze called nuka-yu. By making Western-style plates with the distinctive local clay and glazes of Mashiko, we aim for the creation of a new kind of folk craft—one that incorporates the traditions of classical Mashiko ware into a new, contemporary style.
