The Sugi tray is crafted from a single wide board of Yoshino sugi cedar. Wide solid boards are difficult to source with consistent quality and stability, making them a rare material available only under limited conditions. For the tray surface, we use a carefully selected straight-grain board with a fine, uniform texture.
The surface is finished with the uzukuri technique, in which the softer parts of the wood are brushed away while the harder grain remains, creating a subtle relief that accentuates the annual rings. This highlights the natural grain of the wood while also helping to make small scratches from daily use less noticeable.
Lightweight and easy to handle, sugi cedar is well suited for everyday use. The trays are available in three sizes: small for tea settings, medium as an individual place setting, and large for serving and carrying. They are stackable for compact storage.
