by Claesson Koivisto Rune

The first drawing of the plate set proposed by Claesson Koivisto Rune featured vertically cut inner corners, creating an overall sharp, taut look. It was highly conceptual and clear in its intentions. Yet, as producers of tools for daily life, we felt the design was too close to that of a designer product. Seeking something closer to an aesthetic for everyday use, we suggested adding an organic curve to the inner rise, while preserving the vertical rise on the outside as well as the flat, wide surface and the straight lines of the edges. We thought that the softer impression of the curve would suit the purpose of the plate as a receptacle for food at the dinner table. The three plates can be placed together to create a square or a zigzag shape by aligning the sides of the plates. Designed with a sense of fun in mind, the set encourages users to arrange the plates in various compositions.
