Iris is a chair produced by a compilation of Midori Mitsui’s pursuit in creating furniture for many years. Slits are provided in formed plywood, which Paul Kjærholm also used, and two boards of formed plywood are overlaid with their slits oriented alternately to create regularly spaced square holes at the intersecting areas of the slits. It requires high technique that accurately overlaying two boards of formed plywood and forming of a chair by fixing the formed plywood with the side frame which is integrated with legs.
Although a hard material of formed plywood is used, the smooth line from the seat surface to backrest fits well with the body and offers a soft seating experience. Various manufacturers have produced this chair in the past. This time, under full cooperation of one manufacture in Yamagata Prefecture, we were able to produce this chair with high degree of completion.
