In Japan, where sitting on the floor is part of the culture, dishes and utensils used to be set on individual trays during meals. It is still customary today to sit on the floor and relax, and we created the Za to be used as a side table where drinks and books can be set. We kept the decoration to a minimum and aimed for a small size that’s easy to move around, imagining something that can serve as a handy tool in everyday life.
