Tsurugaoka Hachimangu stands as a symbol of the ancient capital of Kamakura with a history of over 800 years and remains people’s spiritual stronghold. Nestled within its precincts is the Kamakura Bunkakan Tsuruoka Museum Café & Shop.

Stepping inside, one immediately notices the 1,000-year-old sacred tree, Ōicho (giant ginkgo), which was uprooted by a storm in 2010. For this airy, open space with a glass façade, we created chairs, café tables, and fixtures brimming with the warmth of wood.

The Argyle chair, made of walnut wood and designed by Drill Design, is inspired by the Windsor chair.  The name derives from the backrest with its spokes laced into V- and inverted-V shapes, forming an argyle pattern. The orderly lined chairs look just like a continuous pattern in Argyle. This charming chair is a perfect piece for the bright, light, and bustling space in the historic heart of Kamakura.
