Noma Kyoto 2023

2023

In the spring of 2023, noma held a 10-week pop-up restaurant in Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan.

Following successful pop-ups in Tokyo, Sydney and Tulum, noma partnered with Ace Hotel Kyoto to transform one of its existing restaurants into noma Kyoto.

OEO Studio, responsible for the interior, worked with the noma team to create a space that reflects the culinary vision of noma and noma Kyoto.

The existing restaurant space has been refurbished to create a high-ceilinged main dining area with views over a garden oasis, a secondary dining room and two private dining rooms. The spirit of noma is expressed through traditional Japanese and Kyoto design.

Time & Style’s museum cabinet for private collections was selected to store and display noma’s beautiful crockery, cutlery and objects.

Launched in 2015 as a cabinet to beautifully display collected objects, like a collection case in a museum or art gallery, museum cabinet for private collection is a product that symbolises our craftsmanship.

The frame of the cabinet is made in the traditional Japanese way of assembly, with strength and design as key elements. The outer surface of the frame has a gentle bulge, giving a soft impression to the cabinet, which tends to have a hard look. Furthermore, the classic ‘tama-rim’ decoration gives it a Japanese, oriental air. The cabinet was made using only Japanese woodworking techniques, just like building a small architectural structure. The frame construction is reminiscent of a wooden structure and the legs, which resemble the wooden framework that supports a building, are made from oak wood from Hokkaido.

The cabinet flexibly responds to international lifestyles and at the same time weaves the essential essence of Japan into the space.
