Interior design and furniture: Time & Style
Located in a quiet residential area near Sanjusangendo Temple, Karen Kyoto Higashiyama consists of only 12 rooms. Its concept is “an inn erected through Japanese craftsmanship,” using traditional Japanese techniques and natural materials. The charred cedar-clad exterior incorporates machiya townhouse style that melds with the beautiful cityscape of Kyoto. The interior walls combine traditional materials and techniques including woven cloth of thread produced in Kyoto, plastered earthen walls, and latticed ceilings. Suite rooms have a dining area separated by muntin sliding doors and a living-room space with tatami mats.
